The Value of being around good people

Updated: Nov 22, 2025

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending two events that helped me to connect with inspiring people. I attended a women in business event and heard from a fabulous woman entrepreneur; a proud kiwi who freely admits she doesn't have it all together, but whose story of resilience and creativity was hugely inspiring. I also got to talk to some other awesome women in business; people from accountants to sexual wellness experts, to stylists, to people recycling old things and turning them into something new. I love events like this because I get to meet other people who are doing something different, like me. When you're an entrepreneur and you're surrounded by people who work for others, sometimes it can feel a bit daunting, or like maybe I'm in the wrong place. Connecting with other people who want to help people and create freedom in their own life reminds me that there are so many different, valid ways that we can each choose to live. I know I will learn so much from being a part of this group. While it can be a bit daunting, I really believe in the value of going into rooms where you're the dumbest (at a certain thing) person there - that's where we grow the most.

In the evening, I went to the Community Law Centre end of year pāti. The Community Law Centre is a cause that I believe in really strongly. It's aligned deeply with my value of justice, and volunteering there is one of the ways I show love to my community. Each year, they have a party that they put on for volunteers. It's low budget but high care. There is kai, there are intentional spaces for people with all sorts of different needs, and there's always a speech. This speech inspires me each year. It reminds me about the people we have helped. It reminds me of the kind of person I want to be. In that room, everyone there cares about honouring te tiriti, everyone there cares about supporting and loving people from all walks of life. Everyone there believes in showing respect as a basic human dignity. That room, and the speeches given, make me a better person every year.

So, as the end of the year comes, I encourage you to think about who you spend time with. Who inspires you? Who reminds you of who you want to be? How can you be in the room with that person or those people? If you don't know yet, don't worry! You're here, and that's a great start! The VIP Mindset is about creating space for people to grow and flourish together. I'm so glad you're here. Let's get ready to start the new year with clarity and peace, together.

The theme for the party was pink pony club. Here I am with a certificate and mybest-dressed trophy. Love Community Law's dedication to awhiing others.
