Finding hope
I have spent a few days this week in Whangarei, that, coupled with the school holidays and a bit of a cold, has meant I haven't really known what day it is all week! It was really lovely to get the chance to visit the northern part of the motu (country), and I am also really energised by the new organisation I'm working for.
On Thursday I visited the venue for my upcoming workshop: two/fifty seven Willis Street. As soon as I walked in I was struck by the friendliness and intentional inclusiveness of the space. The kaupapa (purpose) of two/fifty seven is about creating space for awesome things to happen, supporting the community towards an inclusive and socially just society. As you might imagine, hosting the workshop somewhere so values driven and values-aligned definitely lit me up.
The world can feel a bit overwhelming at times, and every time I look at the news I catch myself feeling a bit hopeless. Spaces like two/fifty seven and people like Steph Dhyrberg (whom I interviewed for this week's episode of Doing it Messy) are examples of hope, of resilience, of the power of doing what is right.
What examples can you find of hope this week?
Podcast Episodes
525,600 minutes. In this episode I reflect on time, and how precious our time and energy is.
This week was the first of my On Her Own Terms series. I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to sit down and chat with feminist lawyer Steph Dhyrberg. We talked about all sorts of things; what she's passionate about and where that came from, how she tries to find time for the things that fill her cup, as well as some of the lessons she's learned and is still learning. Steph is an incredible woman and I'm so grateful she took the time to chat with me during this extended podcast episode.
Coming up - Design a Life you Love 23 October 1pm-2:30pm
A lot of the people I speak to don't really know where to start when it comes to pushing against expectations and creating a life on their own terms. Because of this, I'm really excited to be bringing my first in person Design a Life you Love workshop to Wellington.
The workshop will be a hands-on in-person 90 minute experience where I will talk you through the VIP mindset and some tools, and you'll have time to map out the life you love in the actual workshop. It's for busy people who know they want something more, but can't put their finger on quite what that is or how to get there yet. Tickets are limited.
What one thing are you doing this week that makes a positive difference in the world, however big or small?
Until next time, take care, and remember, it's not about perfection, it's about intention.
Warmly,
Ruth
If you have a group you think could benefit from me talking to them, please do put us in touch. I love being able to share this work with people. You can find out more about my workshops and keynotes on the website, and I'm also happy to design something specifically for an organisation.
