What if we were allowed to choose again?
What if we were allowed to choose again?
Who would we be if other people's expectations weren't shaping our decisions?
It's a question I've been sitting with lately, and it's what inspired this week's episode of Doing It Messy.
So many of us are living lives that we didn't consciously design.
Sometimes we followed the path we thought we were supposed to take. Study this.
Work here.
Buy the house.
Have kids.
Stay home.
Keep climbing.
Be grateful.
Sometimes we did make a conscious choice, but years later we feel like we have to stay committed because we've already invested so much time, energy, or identity into that path.
Either way, it's easy to end up on autopilot.
Not because we're necessarily unhappy.
Just because we've stopped asking whether this life still fits.
One of the things we explored in the podcast is the idea of seasons.
Life isn't static, and neither are we.
Our priorities change. Our responsibilities change. What brings us joy changes. What we need changes.
The choices that served us well in one season of life may not be the choices that serve us in the next.
That doesn't mean we've failed, or that every uncomfortable feeling means it's time to make a dramatic change.
But it does mean it's worth taking the time to pause.
To slow down.
To reflect.
To ask whether the life we're building still aligns with who we are and who we're becoming.
One of the exercises I shared is something I call the Dream Life Project.
Rather than focusing on achievements or ticking off goals, it invites us to look at each area of our lives and ask a different question:
What would we love this part of our life to feel like?
Not what it should look like.
Not what would impress other people.
Not what someone else would choose.
What would we love?
That question can change everything.
It's also why I'm so excited to be running my upcoming workshop.
Design a Life You Love
Thursday 19 August Live on Zoom | 90 minutes
This workshop is an opportunity to create the space and time to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what really matters.
Together, we'll explore the three pillars of the VIP framework: Values, Identity, and Priorities.
We'll reflect on the season of life we're in now, and whether the life we're building still fits who we are today.
We'll work through the Dream Life Project, considering what we want each area of our lives to feel like, both now and in the future.
Most importantly, we'll identify practical next steps so we can begin building towards a life that feels more intentional, more aligned, and more like our own.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you come. In fact, if you're feeling stuck, uncertain, or simply know something needs to change but can't quite put your finger on what, this workshop was designed for you.
If this feels like the right season to become more intentional about the life you're creating, I'd love to have you there.
You can reserve your place here: Design a Life you Love Workshop
